My heart goes out to all those who suffer through
injustice. The court systems in so many countries
are arbitrary. I wonder if there are international observers?

There are actually a few observers. The person from Human Rights Watch who wrote the report in the link attended the trial a number of times. The US embassy Human Rights people also showed up once or twice.
